Our client, an established Kingswinford based engineering business who specialise in providing bespoke cast house equipment to the Aluminium industry require a Technical Author for a Permanent contract. The role of the Technical Author will be the production of all aspects of company manuals; these may be in hard copy (paper) or electronic format. It is essential you have relevant experience in a similar role with an Engineering background. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to add real value to the business and work as part of the team.
Skills and experience required of the Technical Author; writing technical manuals, have a methodical approach, Health & Safety, technical terminology, risk Assessments, Adobe Software, graphic design, clear communication within and outside the business, strong IT skills including Adobe, the role is office-based with visits to customers and suppliers as necessary at home and abroad, often working to time deadlines, so after-hours and weekend work will be required.

The main duties of the Technical Author; production of all aspects of manuals; these may be in hard copy (paper) or electronic format, to ensure that all manuals are produced in accordance with the deadlines stated in the Contract Handover Meeting Minutes, to examine each contract’s requirements for manuals, plan work required to produce manuals and input required from other departments to facilitate completion of manual within the required deadline. Particular attention to be paid to ensuring that the manuals describe in detail the way the plant is to be operated in terms of safety and warranty, to check that the description of the equipment supplied conforms to the actual contract drawings and specification of the equipment as built, liaison with suppliers to obtain documents/product leaflets. The Technical Author has the authority to prevent payments to suppliers that have not provided suitable documentation where required, liaison with Contracts Engineers and customers to ascertain precise requirements, liaison with other departments to obtain necessary information, preparation of weekly progress reports, maintain or improve on the existing quality of company manuals, to produce manuals in a similar format to Car maintenance manuals incorporating labelled images, hyperlinks to drawings/supporting documents, etc. You will be committed, a good communicator and above all you will be hard working.
